Week 9 TNF Fantasy Reaction

75 points and over 1,000 yards of offense! Wowza. One of the more entertaining TNF games of the season and finally managing to avoid any catastrophic injuries to key fantasy contributors.

The game ended 45-30 with the Colts coming out easy victors over the Jets. For the Colts, Wentz and Taylor carved up the Jets hapless defence, while on the Jets side Mike White got off to a nice start but unfortunately left the game with a wrist injury, making way for Josh Johnson. Johnson went on to throw for 300 yards and 3 TDs in garbage time heaven. Michael Carter continued to play well but it was Elijah Moore who broke out for 2 touchdowns and several catch and run plays.

Fantasy heaven for anyone who had pieces in this TNF game, here’s my three key fantasy talking points:

Jonathan Taylor is the heir to King Henry’s throne

After the loss of King Henry for the season it was a question of who is the next man to take the number 1 overall spot in fantasy. Austin Ekeler maybe. Dalvin Cook quite possibly. Najee Harris potentially. But right now none of these have the game breaking, pure rushing dominance that Jonathan Taylor is showing. Dalvin Cook has absolutely shown in the past he can rush for 100+ yards and take over games with multiple scores. But it’s Taylor’s time now. Last night he rushed for 172 yards and 2 TDS, adding on 28 yards receiving. With a monstrous 78 yard TD run, which if you put him in a Titans uniform you would think it’s King Henry himself:

It’s now 841 rushing yards and 8 TDs on just 140 carries in 9 games of 2021.

He’s just 348 yards and 3 TDs off of 2020’s season rushing line, with 8 games remaining.

Jonathan Taylor is now on pace for 1,589 rushing yards and 15 rushing TDs on the year. That’s just his RUSHING projections. With that alone Taylor will easily be the number 1 overall fantasy running back. Any sort of receiving on top of that would just be icing on the cake.

Taylor is the engine of this Colts team that has seen its offensive line cope well through injury. Nothing can stop JT now.

Are we seeing Elijah Moore breakout?

Yes and maybe.

The line from last night was exceptional for fantasy – 8/7/84/2. He’s now also seen 6+ targets in 3 straight scoring 3 touchdowns in the same span. Moore played 61% of snaps last night, his highest snap count since week 2.

The issue is, this has pretty much all been with either Mike White or Josh Johnson, and with Corey Davis out with injury. Which for the time being is fine, but what happens when Zach Wilson comes back? And what happens when Corey Davis returns?

For now we can safely assume Moore has performed well enough to be at least third in the Jets WR pecking order behind Crowder and Davis. And as long as either White or Johnson is under center, you can plug him in as a flex in good matchups. But once Wilson and Davis return I can’t see how you can confidently start Moore in fantasy rosters.

As for the schedule, it’s pretty good for Moore – matchups against Houston, New Orleans and Miami twice in the next 6 weeks. So he’s a great stash at this point, and could be very useful down the stretch if he can exploit the matchups.

Jets run D is woeful

Now they were up against Jonathan Taylor, but even Hines ran for 74 yards and a TD, averaging 12.3 YPC.

Just to running backs, per game, they are allowing on average:

120 rushing yards (31st)

77 receiving yards (32nd)

1.75 rushing TDs (32nd)

30.5 fantasy points (32nd, standard scoring)

If any team going up against the Jets has any sort of decent 1-2 punch of running backs, start both of them confidently.

Here is a list of running backs by week you should be looking to start against Jets D:

Fantasy Reg Season

Week 10 – Moss and Singletary

Week 11 – Gaskin

Week 12 – Houston RBs…hmm maybe not.

Week 13 – Sanders (IR), Scott, Howard

Fantasy Playoffs

Week 14 – Kamara and Ingram

Week 15 – Gaskin (again!)

Week 16 – Robinson

Week 17 – Fournette, Bernard…Playoff Rojo?!
