Undrafted – The Network

Fantasy Premier League: GW4 Preview

Back once again for the GW4 preview. This week we’re highlighting the best captain choices and the standout player picks. Plus, a shoutout to our MOTM in the Undrafted mini-league.

Standout Players

Players to consider transferring in. This week it’s the Big Hitter for GW4, A Risky Differential-Enabler, then a Safe Bet & Calculated Punt over the next 4 game weeks.

1. Big Hitter

Expect a double-digit return this week. Doesn’t include the captain choices below as that’s to be expected.

First, here’s a look at how our previous choices have faired so far:

MID – Nicolas Pepe – 7.2m – Arsenal

Fixture: Home to Norwich

Projected points: 12

At first glance, this seems like a risky pick. But last season Pepe had the most success against the weaker teams. Yes, Arsenal has had a poor start, but this could play into their hands as Norwich might play a more expansive game against them. This should open the floodgates for players like Aubamayang and Pepe. I’m expecting Pepe to get a goal and an assist in this fixture and be a great differential big hitter for GW4. He also has good fixtures between now and GW11 so is a worthy long-term punt.

2. Safe Bet

This player is a safe choice for FPL points over the next 4 game weeks.

Here’s a look at how our previous picks have faired so far:

DEF – Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7.5m – Liverpool

Fixtures: Leeds (a), Crystal Palace (h), Brentford (a), Man City (h)

Projected points: 6.25PPM

If you don’t own him already, now’s the time. He ranks 4th overall in the ICT index, with one assist and 2 clean sheets already to his name. Three of his next four fixtures look great, and then a ‘tough’ game against City to finish it off could actually play into the attacking full-backs hands. I think he’ll get 2 clean sheets and 2 assists in the next 4 game weeks, that’s around 25 points. Safe & reliable.

3. Calculated Punt

A player who is a slight gamble, but if you get it right could hit big over the next four fixtures.

Here’s a look at how our previous picks have faired so far:

FWD – Jimenez – 7.4m – Wolves

Fixtures: Watford (a), Brentford (h), Southampton (a), Newcastle (h)

Projected points: 6PPM

Yet to score this season. But he had 3 tough fixtures to deal with, and still managed the second-most shots in the league. With Wolverhampton’s fixtures looking great over the next 4 and beyond, Jimenez is expected to start contributing attacking returns. I’m projecting him to score 2 goals and grab an assist over the next 4 game weeks, so around 24 points.

4. Risky Differential-Enabler

High risk-High reward. This week, I’m combining the risky differential and enabler segments as there’s the perfect player who fits the bill.

MID – Martin Odegaard – 5.5m – Arsenal

Fixtures: Norwich (h), Burnley (a), Tottenham (h), Brighton (a)

With so many FPL managers trying to squeeze Ronaldo into their teams, Odegaard could be a great way to help enable that. He’s only 0.9% owned, so could provide a great differential to go hand in hand with the in-demand Ronaldo. A home game against Norwich to kick things off is the ideal week to get him in. His fixtures also look great all the way through GW11.

Captain Decisions

Plenty to choose from this week. It looks like a 5-way battle – Ronaldo, Lukaku, Salah, Antonio or Fernandes.

Ronaldo – Home game against Newcastle. First game back. Scored his only hat-trick in the league vs Newcastle. I’m expecting 4 shots minimum.

Lukaku – Home game against Aston Villa, who are without key pieces in their defence. If he plays, I’m expecting him to bully them.

Salah – Away game against Leeds. Expecting this to be a pretty open game, Leeds defence has looked unflattering and the Brasil debacle means it could be a goal-fest.

Antonio – Away game against a poor Southampton defence. With 3 double-digit game weeks in a row, can he make it 4?

Fernandes – Home game against Newcastle. Scored a hat-trick in his last home game. Could be a make or break week for him.

Honourable mention to Harry Kane. With such low ownership, he’s not worth captaining. But an away game against Crystal Palace is very appealing.

August’s Manager Of The Month – Sultan Saeed

Take a bow, Sultan. 246 points in the opening 3 GWs is a great foundation to start the season. Opting to start with both Antonio & Greenwood, along with the usual suspects of Salah, Fernandes & Trent, has proven a great decision. Two out of three captain choices banged, and he’s been rewarded with a top 160k rank overall.

The scores have been reset for September, so all to play for next months MOTM. Remember – the overall winner gets a prize so keep going!
