Not so good news coming out of Jets camp today, with Carl Lawson being carted off with an apparent achilles injury. it didn’t look good as players and coaches gathered around him while he was being tended to. If it’s a torn achilles, that’ll be Lawson out for the year, and one of the Jets most important pieces for the upcoming rebuild sidelined.
The Jets signed some good pieces this off season that will serve as pillars for a team that’s rebuilding its whole roster. With vet linebacker CJ Mosley feeling healthier than ever, and the addition of Lawson, things are beginning to take shape on a Robert Saleh style defence. Saleh knows how to utilise his pass rushers, and he has a good one in Lawson.
Lawson spent his first four seasons with the Bengals, after being drafted in the 4th round back in 2017. He was one of the top edge rush talents on the free agency market, and the Jets made a statement bringing him in on a 3 year, $45M dollar contract. Despite playing on a bad roster for the majority of his career so far, Carl Lawson has totalled 22 sacks in 4 seasons. If you discount his second season, where he missed a lot of time, and only managed 1 sack, that’s 21 sacks in 3 seasons for an average of 7.
Fingers crossed it’s not torn, but Jets fans will be holding their breath…
