Top 5 Premier League Midfielders 21/22

With the return of the Premier League just a few days away, I’ve been tasked with providing my top 5 players in each position!

Next up are the midfielders!

5. Mason Mount

Who’d have guessed? Mason Mount makes my top 5 midfielders.

I adore him. Yes I’m biased.

However, Mount had another terrific season with The Blues last season, winning the Champions League. He also shone in England’s fantastic Euro 2020 campaign, and the 22 year old will only get better.

4. Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish was exceptional for Aston Villa over the last few seasons, so imagine him in a stacked Manchester City team…

After a £100m move this summer, I fully expect Grealish to have his best season yet. With the likes of KDB, Mahrez and Foden around him, this City side is scary.

3. Kevin De Bruyne

It feels strange putting a player of Kevin De Bruyne’s talent at 3rd, however a slightly disappointing 2021 so far means he drops down.

I get a couple of niggling injuries have had a massive impact on him, but he just didn’t seem himself this year.

After a rough summer with Belgium, hopefully KDB can return to his best this season, and if he can, he’ll be back to being the best midfielder, if not best footballer in the Prem.

2. Bruno Fernandes

Since arriving in Manchester, Bruno Fernandes has been a revelation.

In his 18 months at Old Trafford, he’s scored an incredible 26 league goals, with 19 assists.

‘Penandes’ or not, his stats are ridiculous.

A born winner, a born leader, and just an all round exceptional footballer. I fully expect Fernandes to hit 15 goals with 15 assists this season.

1. N’golo Kante

For me, this was simple.

N’golo Kante really is a different breed of footballer. With his energy level, his work rate, his determination, it’s easy to forget just how smart and talented the Frenchman is.

With a standout display in the Champions League final and more recently in the Super Cup, it’s a no brainer for me that Kante is the best all round midfielder in the Premier League, if not the world.
