Take a look at our top 5 goalkeepers for the 21/22 Fantasy Premier League. These are the keepers we’re backing to be top of the rankings at the end of the season. For perspective, I consider 150 points in a season to be the gold standard for FPL goalkeepers. If your GK manages that feat then you’ve made a great choice. Anything above 165 and you’re in fantasy dreamland, but anything less than 140 points I’d consider a failed asset. Fine margins.

Before I show you our rankings, for comparison, here are last seasons top 5 FPL goalkeepers:
As you can see from the image above, one keeper had you in fantasy dreamland last season with 186 points! Two made the gold standard, and the other two had solid, respectable seasons. So let’s take a look at our predicted top 5 goalkeepers for this season and see who we believe has the best chance to top the rankings.
Top 5 Goalkeepers
5. Pickford – 5.0M – Everton
After keeping the most clean sheets in the Euros this year with 5, confidence is going to be high. And although he’s often struggled to replicate his national form with his club, if ever there was the year to do it, this would be it. Rafa Benitez typically has a defensive mindset, added with Pickford’s sky-high confidence and we could be looking at a top goalkeeper contender. In the 18/19 season, Pickford managed 161 FPL points, so we know he’s got it in his locker. Predicted points: 149.
4. Alisson – 6.0M – Liverpool
Alisson is entering his 4th year in the league. With a disappointing return of only 10 clean sheets last season, he still managed 140 points. This season, with the return of VVD and the new addition of Konate, Liverpool’s defence could be primed for a season similar to Alisson’s first where he managed 176 points. That was the 4th most points by a GK in FPL history. I’m not expecting him to repeat that, but I think he will comfortably reach the gold standard. Predicted points: 155.
3. Martinez – 5.5M – Aston Villa
The guy who nearly broke the record. Last season he ranked 1st in FPL goalkeepers. His 186 point haul was the second-best in FPL history. Painfully, he was only 1 point off the long-standing record of 187 points, set by Brad Friedel in the 2002/03 season. Although I think it will be difficult for Martinez to replicate that total, I still believe he will be one of the top 5 goalkeepers in FPL this season and should be flirting with his 6.0m rivals all season. Predicted points: 156.
2. Ederson – 6.0M – Manchester City
In second place for the second year in a row, we have Ederson. In the last 4 seasons, City has kept 19, 16, 20, and 16 clean sheets respectively. This year, I’m expecting a consistent flow of points from Ederson that will keep him in the race for the top FPL keeper rank. But I think he might just miss out on the top spot to our No.1 choice. Predicted points: 158.
1. Mendy – 6.0M – Chelsea
We’re backing Chelsea to keep the most clean sheets this season. And with that, Mendy to take the top spot on the FPL goalkeeper rankings. Last season, Chelsea managed 16 clean sheets in Mendy’s 31 games, and only conceded 25 goals. His opening fixtures and price increase may have put managers off, but we’re expecting Mendy to rack up the most points for a goalkeeper come the end of the season. Predicted points: 164.
That’s a wrap. We have a few honourable mentions who deserve their name in the limelight. Tottenham’s Lloris, Watford’s Bachmann, & Brighton’s Sanchez. Any of those 3 could easily find themselves near the top of the rankings come May next year.
