Undrafted FPL: Differentials

With the new Premier League season fast approaching, we take a look at some of the differentials that could easily get into your starting squad for fantasy and some of them are quite frankly unreal value. Not necessarily cheap bargains but some are cheaper alternatives and some I just don’t get why nobody owns them.

Dean Henderson – GK – £5.0 – 3.6%

A nice cheap way into the Manchester United defence, with the addition of Rafael Varane I think at least one is a must. Dean Henderson at 5.0 is the cheapest defensive player that will play for United after seemingly cementing his position in the squad over David De Gea. Henderson managed 4 clean sheets out of 12 games where he started, and that’s before swapping Lindelof out for Varane. If you’re thinking about a 4.5 GK then try and find the extra 0.5 and get Dean Henderson in.

Thiago Silva – DEF – £5.5 – 5.0%

The only real Chelsea defender that will 100% play if he’s fit, which gives him a massive edge over players in the same price bracket as him, especially looking back at how good Chelsea were defensively last season. Registering 23 appearances with 10 clean sheets, he also scored twice and got 10 bonus points in them games. Chelsea arguably have the worst start to the season, playing Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and City by week 6 but after that they have a lovely run of fixtures. Maybe not one to get in straight away but I don’t think it’s a bad idea as Chelsea don’t tend to concede against, well, anyone.

Riyad Mahrez – MID – £9.0 – 4.0%

Four percent. FOUR. PERCENT. STOP. THE. COUNT. Mahrez was the best attacking player for Man City last season and he’s only 9.0. Yes De Bruyne is back and yes Pep loves a rotation, but he just didn’t rotate Mahrez as much as the rest. They’ve not got the best of opening fixtures but does it really matter when you’re the best team in the league? Mahrez averaged over 6 points per 90 minutes last season and he was electric every time he got the ball. He passes the eye test and the stats test, what’s not to like about him! Towards the end of the season he didn’t play in the league as much, mainly because he featured in every other cup midweek, whether it was the FA cup or the Champions Legaue, Riyad Mahrez was playing.

Allan Saint-Maximin (ASM) – ATT – £6.5 – 4.5%

Now this one is interesting. ASM every season ends up in my team, this year is different as they’ve got him down as an attacker which frees up a midfield spot but also means he is a dirt cheap attacking option when you compare him to who else is around that price. Yes he was injured most of last season but man is he good to watch when he’s in your fantasy team. Towards the end of last season when he came back from injury he played in a much more attacking role which helped him score 3 times. Newcastle will need goals from somewhere next season and ASM is the man to get them. ASM Is definitely a risk and reward type player but at the start of the season why not punt on him and get a head start on your rivals in your mini leagues.

Roberto Firmino – ATT – £9.0 – 5.2%

Hear me out. Considerably cheaper than Salah and Mane, Firmino is a change of form away from being the steal of the season. He still managed 16 returns in what probably was the worst season he’s had in the Premier League. I fully expect him to find his form this season with a nice little confidence boost that Liverpool aren’t signing another striker. With the squad back to full fitness I believe Firmino will be a lot further forward this season and actually play in the striker position. If Klopp has every faith in Bobby then why shouldn’t we. Liverpool have such a lovely run of fixtures at the start so if he is going to find form it’ll be then and you wont want to miss out on it, and it’ll be even sweeter when he is one of the best differentials not just in your leagues but overall.
