Calvin Austin III. Dual athlete, Track star & home town football star. Football walk on turned scholarship D1 athlete. Over 1000 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season resulting in Calvin being 8th in the nation in receiving yards across all of college football. All AAC First Team Selection in 2020 & now a Biletnikoff award finalist for the nations top receiver in 2021.
Calvin is returning to Memphis for one last ride with his hometown team, and gave me some of his time to talk to him about college football, his journey to where he is now, challenges and adversity, the NFL, and all round resulted in a fantastic interview.
He attended Memphis games as a kid, and had to swallow his pride when the scholarship he believed he deserved didn’t come. Being a college football walk on is no easy feat, and to get to where Calvin has now is an amazing achievement. He exploded onto the scene in 2020 when he had to step up for his team, and broke the 1000 yard mark, landing 8th in the nation across all of college football in receiving yards, and 4th in touchdowns among wide receivers.
With one year left, and having turned down the opportunity to go to the NFL, so he could play one last year with his team mates, Calvin is hoping to emulate his success in 2020, and build upon it, turning himself into a popular draft choice come April. With NFL teams all hunting for the Tyreek Hill type athletes to add to their weaponry, Calvin Austin III has the ability to be just that kind of athlete. His track abilities, and experience now lining up inside and outside will give him an edge. I can’t wait to see what he produces this season.
As a fan first, I’m extremely grateful for this experience. Calvin was absolutely fantastic. I asked him for 25 minutes, he gave me twice that, and was a total pleasure. This young man is going places, and I’m a huge fan now. It was truly an unforgettable experience for me to be able to share that time with him.
Thank you sir! Remember the name, Calvin Austin III.
