Chelsea @ Euro 2020 – Matchday 1

Hopefully everyone has enjoyed the start of the Euro’s! It’s been an interesting first week, with many stunning goals, and a few shocks.

During the course of the tournament, I’ll be covering all the Chelsea action.

Here is the summary of every Chelsea player who played during Matchday 1.

Jorginho – Italy v Turkey – Jorginho is a quality European midfielder, and showed his class during the opening game against Turkey.

He made the team tick, and plays a crucial role in the Azzuri side, providing both defensive cover and attacking precision in an easy 3-0 win. 9/10.

Ethan Ampadu – Wales v Switzerland – Frustratingly for Ampadu, he only came on for a matter of seconds during Wales opening draw with Switzerland.

Hopefully the youngster can get some more minutes in over the next 2 group games. N/A

Andreas Christensen – Denmark v Finland – Denmark’s game against Finland was overshadowed by the cardiac arrest suffered by Christian Eriksen.

Like all of the Danish players, Christensen was a true friend by surrounding Eriksen while he was receiving CPR. Despite the score, all those Danish players are heroes. 10/10

Mason Mount – England v Croatia – As per normal, Mason Mount had a superb game against Croatia.

He made the team tick, and played all 90 minutes in the 1-0 win. Pretty much impossible to drop him! 9/10

Mateo Kovacic – Croatia v England – Like most of the Croat’s, Kovacic really struggled to get into the game. Despite the score line only being 1-0, England were in complete control.

Hopefully he can help Croatia qualify for the knockout stages, and plays against Czech Republic this afternoon. 6/10

N’golo Kante – France v Germany – N’golo Kante doing N’Golo Kante things.

As per normal, absolutely spotless in the centre of midfield, and had a solid game. 9/10

Antonio Rudiger – Germany v France – Rudiger didn’t have a bad game, but it wasn’t great. Accused of biting Paul Pogba during the match, he created headlines worldwide.

The Germans were on the end of a 1-0 defeat by the French, and didn’t create anywhere near enough. 6/10

Kai Havertz – Germany v France – Havertz had a decent game without posing too much of a threat.

He’s pretty much secured his place in the German starting lineup however, and hopefully he can improve over the two remaining group games. 6/10

Timo Werner – Germany v France – Timo Werner was unable to make the starting 11 against France, and came on for the last 15 minutes.

His pace and movement was superb once again, and a lot of German fans are calling for him to play the next two games. 7/10

All in all a rather average week for the Chelsea internationals at Euro 2020.

Jorginho probably the pick of the players through Matchday 1. A lot of the blues stars were unused subs, and hopefully we can see more of them during the tournament.

See you all next week!
