Chelsea @ Euro 2020

With the domestic season over and done with, all attentions will be turned to Euro 2020, starting immediately.

With most Premier League teams having numerous players at the European Championships, it’s a fantastic spectacle for both National teams and Club teams.

Obviously I want England to do well, and hopefully win the whole thing. However, one eye will also be on the vast array of talent provided by Chelsea.

Every week I will report on the Chelsea players, starting with today. Here I will be including any Chelsea player off to the European Championships.

Cesar Azpilicueta – Spain – ‘Dave’ has had an outstanding season with Chelsea, and its no surprise whatsoever that he’s made it into the Spain side for the upcoming Euro’s. He can play both right back and centre back, being a perfect flexible option.

Ben Chilwell – England – Since joining Chelsea, Chilwell has been another exceptional player. A standout performance in the Champions League really proved Chilwell is in fact a world class defender.

Reece James – England – Just like Chilwell, James had a fabulous game against Manchester City in the Champions League final. He’s really pushing for a start for England this summer.

Andreas Christensen – Denmark – After a rather average start of the season due to injury issues, Christensen was brilliant for Thomas Tuchel, and played a blinder when Thiago Silva had to come off in Porto. A certain starter for Denmark.

Emerson – Italy – A rather forgotten man at Stamford Bridge, but Emerson is highly thought of in the Italian camp.

Antonio Rudiger – Germany – Another player who didn’t really get a chance under Frank Lampard, however really shone under Tuchel. A true warrior during the last half of the season, and one of the first names on the German team sheet.

Kurt Zouma – France – Zouma is the final Chelsea defender off to the Euro’s. He’ll likely only be used as a backup due to the sheer strength of the World Champions. However the experience will be vital, and hopefully he can get some minutes.

Billy Gilmour – Scotland – Gilmour only made his Scottish debut a couple of weeks ago, however has had high praise from many Scottish fans calling for him to start in the Euro’s. Hopefully he can get a lot of game time, will be vital for his growth.

Mason Mount – England – One of the best midfielders in England during 2020/21 season, Mount looks certain to start for England. At 22, he’s secured a Champions League, can he win the Euro’s?

Kai Havertz – Germany – After his goal in the UCL Final, Havertz goes to the Euro’s in excellent form. Hopefully him and Timo Werner can do well for the Germans.

Jorginho – Italy – A player who’s hit and miss for Chelsea. On his day he’s excellent. Italy really tick through him however, and will be a guaranteed starter.

N’golo Kante – France – Not much to say. Kante is Kante. Exceptional. Will play every game for the World Champions.

Mateo Kovacic – Croatia – An underrated footballer in my opinion. I think Kovacic will be vital for Croatia, just hopefully not against England!

Olivier Giroud – France – At the time of writing, Giroud is only 5 goals off Thierry Henry’s record of 51 goals for France. Benzema is also an injury doubt, meaning Giroud could beat the record this summer.

Timo Werner – Germany – After a tough season at Chelsea, hopefully Werner can regain some sort of scoring form. Off the ball his movement is second to none, if only he could score a few goals.

Conclusion – Chelsea have a grand total of 15 players at the European Championships. Every week I’ll be assessing how the blues representatives get on, and if England don’t win it, I hope a fellow Chelsea player will.
