On Thursday, May 6, 2021, the college football world received some devastating news. Texas LB, Jake Ehlinger was found dead near the University of Texas at the Austin campus.
Jake attended Westlake High School in Austin where according to maxpreps.com accumulated a total of 144 solo tackles, 210 total tackles, 6 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries. When it was time for college, Ehlinger stayed close to his roots. Following in his brother’s footsteps, Jake decided to continue his football career at the University of Texas at Austin.
Ehlinger started his college career in 2019. However, in the two short years, Ehlinger had been with the program he did not play. Ehlinger was a sophomore studying Business.
Unfortunately, for the Ehlinger family, this is not the first tragedy the family has gone through. Back in 2013, Ross Ehlinger, father of Sam and Jake, tragically passed away from a heart attack while running in a triathlon in San Francisco, California. He was only 46.
Over the past few days, fans and players have been remembering Ehlinger through numerous social media posts. The outpouring of love and support that the family have received has been something to behold, showing that football truly is family.
The Ehlinger’s have endured so much loss over the past years and I can’t even begin to imagine the pain and heartbreak the Ehlinger family is going through right now.
Keep the Ehlinger family in your prayers. Forever to 48.
I will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
