2021 NFL Draft – Round One Selections!

DRAFT DAY!!!! A day that these young men have been dreaming of since they were little. Where all the blood, sweat, and tears finally pay off. A day where dreams become a reality.

After a 1-15 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars were first on the clock. It came as no surprise when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Clemson QB, Trevor Lawrence as the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. From Clemson South Carolina to Jacksonville Florida, Lawrence has finally found his new home. Hopefully,  Lawrence can set a spark in the Jaguar’s offense and start winning some ball games this upcoming season.

The New York Jets had the second overall pick and selected BYU QB, Zach Wilson. Now, this came as no surprise to many NFL fans, since the Jets traded QB Sam Darnold a few months back to the Carolina Panthers. I believe Wilson will make an excellent addition to the Jets roster and has the capability of bringing life back to New York.

With the 49ers on the clock, they also selected a QB. North Dakota State University QB Trey Lance is headed to the Bay Area to play for the San Fransisco 49ers. This pick did come as a bit of a surprise because Alabama QB Mac Jones was also in the conversation of possibly playing in the Bay Area and getting picked third overall. However, I am excited to see what Lance can do in San Fransisco. After all, he has a great role model and leader in Jimmy Garoppolo to look up to.

The first trade of the evening was the 10th overall pick when the Dallas Cowboys traded with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles did lose Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts, however, they still, have QB Jalen Hurts. The Eagles were on the clock and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith was still available. Sure enough, Smith got drafted to the Eagles. He will be joining ex Alabama QB Jalen Hurts in Philadephia. Hopefully, this Alabama reunion will ignite some wins this upcoming season.

The second trade of the evening was the 11th overall pick when the New York Giants traded with the Chicago Bears. The Bears selected Ohio State QB, Justin Fields. With an excellent resume at Ohio State, I hope to see Fields dominating at the next level.

The third trade of the evening was the 14th overall pick when the Minnesota Vikings traded with the New York Jets. After drafting QB Zach Wilson with pick number two, the Jets opted for an offensive tackle. USC OT Alijah Vera- Tucker will be joining Wilson in New York. The Jets sure got a great OT in Vera-Tucker and I can’t wait to see him represent the Trojans in the NFL.

With four out of the top five quarterbacks selected in the top eleven, Alabama QB Mac Jones was still waiting to hear his name. With the 15th overall pick, the New England Patriots selected Jones. Jones will be an excellent addition to the Patriots offense and hopefully will be scoring touchdowns in no time.

To end the evening, the Super Bowl champions(Tampa Bay Buccaneers) selected Washington LB, Joe Tryon.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I wish you the best of luck on your new football journeys. May you all stay safe out on the gridiron. Now onto day two and day three.
