An NFL Insider… with Zechariah ‘Junior’ Lord

Lord first got people’s attention during his college days at Guilford College in North Carolina, where he broke numerous records, that he still holds to this day, and in fact he was the 1st player in conference history to receive all conference four years in a row!

After his illustrious college career, Lord made the decision to go pro. He signed for his first team Washington Redskins in 1998.

After a year in Washington, he spent a year in both Pittsburgh, and Green Bay before making a move to former NFL Europe side Amsterdam Admirals.

After 3 years in the league, Lord made the switch to the XFL, and AFL, where he really shone and came to light.

Over 40 touchdowns later, in 2006 Lord hung up his cleats and is currently a successful businessman in the vibrant Las Vegas!

What was your initial reaction when you knew you’d made it to the NFL?

My initial reaction? I’M RICH BITCH 😂

But I wasn’t aware I’d still have to make the team after I’d signed the contract.

We hear the stories and rumours about rookies joining the team for the first time, but do they really have to buy the squad meals and sweets?

Yes! Once a week the rookies had to buy their teammates that played the same position as them breakfast in the morning.

This meant that we had to get up earlier to put the big order in and wait for it to be done!

Best part of playing professional football?

The best part of playing has to be the comedy in the locker room. You get multiple personalities that you wouldn’t normally get a chance to be around.

You had country boys and street boys all in one room telling funny stories.

Current player you’d have loved to play with?

Russell Wilson.

And finally, is Tom Brady the best ever?

No. I think he’s great, but not the greatest.

I think Peyton Manning was a better QB, but didn’t have the same coaching early in his career to build his confidence like Tom did.

The GOAT debate is a tough one to call!

A massive thank you to Mr Lord for his time. It’s fantastic to see an ex professional so successful after the game.
