3 Questions… with Gary Naysmith

Welcome to a new series I’m trying to get off the ground! As many of you know, I collect signed football cards and have done since I was a kid. I’ve always admired footballers and always dreamt of meeting and questioning some of the best in the game.

3 questions is exactly that. 3 quick fire questions to current/former footballers who have played in the Premier League. The questions are based on sports cards and the life of a professional footballer. It’s short and sweet, but helps us understand that footballers are in fact down to earth, and we might have more things in common than we think.

My first guest is a good one. Gary Naysmith has over 125 Premier League appearances for Everton, 46 international caps for Scotland, and has even delved into management once retired from playing.

While playing at Goodison Park, the Evertonians even went as far as calling Naysmith ‘El Blanco Carlos’ after the Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos.

Naysmith also had spells at Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Hearts & Aberdeen during his playing career.

Onto the questions..

While growing up, did you ever collect football cards or stickers?

Yes, I used to collect the Panini stickers during the World Cup whilst I was growing up!

Have you ever owned a trading card of yourself?

No, I can’t say I have. I have seen a couple though!

The best part of being a professional footballer?

For me, the best part of being a professional footballer is being paid to do a job I love. The fact I got paid for something I’d happily have done for free was just amazing.

A massive thank you to Gary for answering my 3 questions, and signing a few cards for me. It’s fascinating to think growing up, that these footballers collected trading cards just like many of us. Then once developing into a professional, they even have cards of themselves.

Stay tuned for the next professional in this series dropping next week!
