There I sat on Monday night, crusty eyed and propped up by caffeine, at 4:30 AM, and i was surprised to see, for the second time this season… Tom Brady… headed off down the tunnel after suffering a loss. And to be honest, it’s becoming a bit of a joke.
Rewind to earlier in the season, and Brady lost to Nick Foles… (again). After the game Brady left Nick Foles standing in the middle of the field like a lemon, looking for Brady to shake his hand and show respect, as quarterbacks ALWAYS do, and always have done after a game. It’s tradition, and it displays respect.
But Brady didn’t fancy it that day, and he was off quicktime into the locker room. When he was asked about it, he said:
“I didn’t even think about that, I think Nick Foles is a hell of a player and a Super Bowl champ. I don’t know one reason or another why I wouldn’t do that. Sometimes I run off the field, sometimes I haven’t. Sometimes if I have a personal relationship, like I have with Drew [Brees] and Justin [Herbert] and Aaron [Rodgers] over the years.”
Right okay, so all of a sudden Brady only shakes hands with guys he has a personal relationship with? How the hell does Tom Brady have a personal relationship with Justin Herbert? Unless i’ve missed something and they train together, in which case okay fair enough. But that statement is total nonsense. Brady has shaken hands with everybody he’s beaten in the Super Bowl, because he won. Including… Jared Goff.
Second times a charm
So fast forward a few weeks to MNF this week, in which Brady played average at BEST. He sailed two balls deep down the field for cupcake interceptions, and at the end of the game, as Goff walks out towards the middle of the field… Brady heads straight off into the locker room… AGAIN.
So is he going to claim he doesn’t know Jared Goff? Same excuse? Because…
At this point it’s straight up disrespectful. Goff played in the super bowl against Tom Brady in which the Patriots defence made him look terrible. Goff didn’t even manage a touchdown that night. They’d been the most thrilling offence that whole season, and had it ripped away from them at the last hurdle. Goff was what 23/24 at the time. Just lost the Super Bowl. Gut wrenching. And here he is… after the game:
Yeah… that’s right Tom. Goff came out and shook your damn hand and congratulated you, because he respects you. Even after a loss like that on the biggest stage. The kid had the maturity to do what every quarterback should do after a game.
And here Tom Brady is, the greatest of all time… showing disrespect multiple times this season, to multiple quarterbacks. What is he better than them now? Brady’s too good and too decorated to shake hands with other professional athletes he shares the field with?
Do better Tom
Not a good look at all. It’s embarrassing to watch, he’s literally the oldest player in the league, acting like a total dick after losing games. Like how can you really expect to get no heat when you’ll quite happily take the praise and guys showing love when you win, but can’t pay the respect back when you lose.
Brady needs to think about who he is and what role he plays for these younger QBs especially. You’d never catch Russell Wilson walking off after a game i’m sure of that. Let’s not start being picky about who we shake hands with, because we all know that’s trash.
Shannon Sharpe had plenty to say about it, and to be honest i’m glad, because he should have to answer for it, and nobody is buying his excuse the first time, claiming he basically doesn’t know Nick Foles? Really? Embarrassing. Here’s what Shannon had to say:
I’d feel irritated if I was Jared Goff. Still only 26, and as a quarterback, there’s no way you don’t look up to Brady, and admire him for what he’s achieved. And yet after getting yourself a win the GOAT can’t even manage to come out and slap some skin. Don’t even try and tell me COVID is the reason. Sort it out Tom, not a good look.
