Undrafted – The Network

The strength of the 2020 Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry Jones and new HC Mike McCarthy have put some serious work on over the offseason.

They’ve landed some pretty good Defensive Free Agents in Gerald McCoy, Ha Ha Clinton Dix, Dontari Poe, and recently Everson Griffen. They signed a good back up QB, Former Bengal, Andy Dalton. They’ve kept key pieces on their special teams and added Place Kicker Greg Zuerlein. On top of this they also grabbed, arguably the steal of the draft, Cee Dee Lamb. Even the Cowboys were shocked at him still being on the board at #17.

So it’s fair to say the Cowboys have been pretty busy. But will this translate into wins?

From an Offensive point of view, on paper, they have one of the best in the league. The O line is solid(even with Center – Travis Fredericks retiring) , Amari Cooper, Cee Dee Lamb, Michael Gallup all out at WR, Zeke in the back field, all led by Dak Prescott. There’s a lot of hate towards Dak but for me, I think he’s a great QB who has the potential to be amazing, given the talent that surrounds him. He’s also dynamic enough to be able to run the ball himself, when he doesn’t want to throw it to some insane player makers (check out Cee Dee’s college highlights) or hand it off to Pro Bowl RB Elliott.

Now the Defense has had a lot of upgrades in key positions but the 2019 Cowboys Defense weren’t a terrible unit. They finished the season ranked 19th according to Football Outsiders. It was clear there were some gaps in that D hence the effort to grab some pretty good FA’s. This will obviously have boosted the expectation of the Defense and especially 3rd yr LB Leighton Vander Esch. I believe they now have a top 10 Defense – again on paper, and this could help push them deeper into the Playoffs in the 2020 season.

NFL fans love to use the 8-8 memes for the Cowboys, but looking at this squad, they have the potential to go a long way. Don’t forget the Cowboys took the NFC East in ‘18 and only ended up losing in the Divisional Playoffs to eventual Super Bowl contenders the LA Rams.

I like the Cowboys to top the East again this year, and it looks like Jerry might be letting fans watch the whole season in the stadium too so that would be pretty epic. You never know we may even see Dez Bryant back at Jerry World……
